Create Music and Edit Audio with Garage Band
Tuesday, March 31, 5-8pm AND Thursday, April 2, 5-8pm
Garage Band provides you with the best way to record music on a Mac. You don't have to worry about your musical talent or lack thereof. Just use GarageBand's included loops, or try a combination of loops, software instruments, or any previous audio recordings you created. Now Garage Band is also an excellet tool for recording podcasts. Podcasting in GarageBand 3 puts you in the control room of your own full-featured radio station. And new iWeb integration gets your voice on the Internet in minutes.

Del.icio.us Bookmarking
Thursday, April 2, 11-12
Del.icio.us website is the biggest social bookmarking site. Social bookmarking is a method for Internet users to store, organize, search and manage bookmarks of web pages with the help of metadata. It doesn't sound too exciting at first but social bookmarking is actually a concept that is sweeping the internet. In this workshop you will learn how to start your own Del.icio.us account and how to best utilize it's features.

Technology Fellows Call for Proposals

We are celebrating the 10th year of the Technology Fellows Program!
Join in the celebration and become a Technology Fellow for Summer 2009!


The purpose of the Technology Fellows Program is to provide opportunities for faculty and staff members to explore new and creative ways to apply their technology skills to collaborative, technology-based projects that will promote and enhance the use of technology in teaching and curriculum development. The Center for Instructional Technology will provide grants for up to six, two member teams who will act as Technology Fellows during the 2009 summer term. Each team member will receive a $2,500 stipend.

Proposals

Each Proposal should address and describe the following issues:
Project title, topic and team (please include a brief description of each team members technical qualifications)
Purpose and goals of the project; Description of the project; How will this project advance the integration of technology in your discipline
Timeline for the project; Long-term expectations
Address hardware, software or other resource needs. If you anticipate that the cost of your project will exceed the $2,500 stipend, do you have
Assessment plan

Each team should consist of two faculty or staff members. Collaborations can be based on mutual skills and interests, a merger of technical and subject matter expertise, departmental or interdisciplinary explorations, or common curricular, teaching and resource needs. The focus of the project should be the use of technology to enhance and promote classroom learning, to create new teaching methodologies using technology as a teaching tool, or the use of technology to provide support for teaching and curricular issues.


Timeframe

Phase I of the Fellowship: Team members will work during the summer 2009 10 week session, May 27th – Aug. 2nd. Projects will be completed by Aug. 16th. Team members will receive half of the Fellowship stipend upon successful completion of Phase I. It is important that you be available to work on campus and attend the scheduled meetings during this summer session.

Phase II of the Fellowship: Projects will be implemented and assessed during the Fall 2009 semester. Evaluation and project assessment will be included in the summary paper which is due Jan. 8th 2010. Team members will receive the second half of the Fellowship stipend upon successful completion of Phase II.

Technology Fellows meetings are scheduled for the following days:

* Wednesday, May 27th 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.
* Wednesday, June 17th 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.
* Wednesday, July 16th 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.
* Wednesday, Aug. 12th 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.
* Wednesday, Sept. 16th 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.
* Wednesday, Oct. 14th 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.
* Wednesday, Nov. 18th 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.


Requirements

In addition to the completed project, Technology Fellows will be expected to

* Attend monthly seminars during the Summer 2009 and Fall 2009 semester.
* Serve as a technology resource person for their department,
* Submit a three to five page summary of their project which will be posted on the CIT web site
* Present their project at a faculty retreat or other appropriate venue.


Selection and Evaluation

Proposals submitted and projects completed will be reviewed by a special committee, members TBA.

The deadline for submitting a Technology Fellows proposal is Friday April 3, 2009. Please submit proposals to:

Intro to Livetype
Wednesday, March 18, 5-8pm
LiveType 2 is a full-featured animated titling application that is powerful, easy to use, and completely versatile. Use LiveType to create animated titles for anything from feature films to broadcast promos to movies for the web. This 3 hour workshop introduces the basics of this application and the workflow between LiveType 2 and Final Cut Studio 2.

Intro to Podcasting and iTunes U
Thursday, March 19, 5-8pm
The iPod revolution is rapidly moving from delivering just music to being used in education as a portable learning tool. It allows access to lectures, speeches, audio books, etc. There are growing opportunities for teachers to create, distribute, and access audio and video learning materials. Columbia College has joined Stanford, Harvard, Berkeley and many other schools and started using Apple's iTunes University for easy podcast publishing. In this workshop you will learn the basics of podcasting and how to create and publish your own audio or video podcast with iTunes U.

Computer Basics workshops are 1 hour long sessions designed for beginners who are just starting to learn their ways around email, internet,calendars, organizing and backing up files, etc.

Intro to Color
Wednesday, March 11, 5-8pm
This 3 hour workshop is an introduction to Apple's new color grading application - Color. Quickly and easily experiment with primary and secondary color grade adjustments for SD, HD, and even 2K projects. Color lets you preview the results at any resolution in real time. When you have just the look you want, render at stunning quality and blazing speeds. Color uses GPU-accelerated processing to produce RGB output in resolutions up to 4:4:4 with 32-bit float processing. Color makes it easy for editors to create signature looks for projects ranging from short video pieces to full-length theatrical films.

What is RSS?

Real Simple Syndication (RSS) is something you hear about once in a while and you might be wondering what exactly it is and why you should know more. RSS is actually one of the essential components sustaining what we now call WEB 2.0. You see RSS in news feeds, RSS is used in blogs and podcasts, you can utilize RSS to keep current or to broadcast your message to thousands of people. This workshop will explain what exactly RSS is about.
