Upcoming CIT Workshops

The Center for Instructional Technology would like to announce next week’s workshops.
The following workshops still have seats available:

After Effects (5 Week Course)
Mondays, 1:00pm-4:00pm, beginning September 28
The After Effects Workshop Series is designed to give beginners solid foundations in creating motion graphics with this industry leading motion graphics application. By signing up for the After Effects Workshop Series, you are signing up for all 5 3-hour long workshops. Only participants who attend all 5 workshops will earn the CIT Certificate. Part-time faculty who complete all 5 workshops will also receive a stipend in the amount of $200.00. Full-time staff who also teach part-time in Columbia do not qualify for a stipend.

Logic Pro (5 Week Course)
Tuesdays, 5:00pm-8:00pm, beginning September 29
Do you need a robust audio editing application? Do you feel that GarageBand doesn't meet all your needs? Meet Logic Pro. Logic Pro is a Digital Audio Workstation and MIDI sequencer software application for the Mac OS X platform. You can record multiple takes; cut, move, or stretch audio with sample accuracy; browse channel strip settings; audition Apple Loops; and drop chords onto your lead sheet. This 5-week long course will introduce you to the basic operations and workflows within the program. By signing up for this course you are signing up for all 5 3-hour long workshops. Only participants who attend all 5 workshops will earn the CIT Certificate. Part-time faculty who complete all 5 workshops will also receive a stipend in the amount of $200.00. Full-time staff who also teach part-time at Columbia do not qualify for a stipend.

Clickers in Your Classroom
Wednesday, September 30, 11:00am-12:00pm

Faculty should bring digital copies of their course materials with them to the Bootcamp. Anyone participating in the Moodle sessions must request that their class be converted to Moodle at least 36 hours prior to the Bootcamp. Using MIMIO – A Portable SmartBoard
Wednesday, September 23, 11:00am-12:00pm
MIMIO is an interactive board that allows for touch control over your projected screen but also allows for recording of whiteboard sessions that are conducted with regular dry erase markers. In this hands-on training you will learn how to use a board like this and will have a chance to play with one in CIT's classroom.

What Else is Google Good For?
Thursday, September 24, 11:00am-12:00pm
This workshop will explore the little known search tricks and Google tools like book search, Google scholar, reader, docs, etc. If you only use Google for internet search, you should definitely take this workshop.

Upcoming CIT Workshops

The Center for Instructional Technology would like to announce next week’s workshops.

The following workshops still have seats available:

Podcasting (7 Week Course)
Mondays, 5:00pm-8:00pm, beginning September 14
The iPod revolution is rapidly moving from delivering just music to being used in education as a portable learning tool. It allows access to lectures, speeches, audio books, etc. There are growing opportunities for teachers to create, distribute, and access audio and video learning materials. This project-based course will introduce you to the shooting and recording techniques as well as editing of audio, enhanced, and video podcasts. You should come to the course with an intention to produce a podcast for your class and you will leave with at least one finished episode. By signing up for the Podcasting Course you are signing up for all 7 3-hour long workshops. Only participants who attend all 7 workshops and complete a project will earn the CIT Certificate. Part-time faculty who complete all 7 workshops and complete a project will also receive a stipend in the amount of $200.00. Full-time staff who also teach part-time in Columbia do not qualify for a stipend. In addition, the participants who complete a project and attend all 7 workshops will gain access to CIT's podcasting equipment and facilities to work on their future podcasting projects.

Build Your Course in Moodle (5 Week Course)
Tuesdays, 1:00pm-4:00pm, beginning September 15
Become acquainted with the Moodle interface and layout. You will put learning resources, objects, and individual and collaborative activities into your class. You will learn how to set up your Moodle Gradebook, and add some of the features that will make your class more engaging. By signing up for the Build Your Course in Moodle Series you are signing up for all 5 3-hour long workshops. Only participants who attend all 5 workshops will earn the CIT Certificate. Part-time faculty who complete all 5 workshops will also receive a stipend in the amount of $200.00. Full-time staff who also teach part-time in Columbia do not qualify for a stipend.

Digitizing Analogue Media: Stills, Video, and Audio
Tuesday, September 15, 5:00pm-8:00pm
Learn how to scan your photos and slides, convert VHS tapes to digital video and convert analogue audio to digital audio files.

Video Editing for Absolute Beginners: Intro to iMovie
Wednesday, September 16, 5:00pm-8:00pm
Video editing on a personal computer has never been this easy! This workshop will teach you everything you need to know to edit video on your Mac. We'll cover capturing, editing, making photo slideshows, working with sound and outputting the finished piece to a tape, DVD or a website. That's a lot to talk about in 3 hours, but iMovie'08 makes it so easy you will be ready to edit by yourself in no time.
