Our contest is open to all nonfiction writers. We're looking for essays and memoir, lyric and experimental forms, non-linear narratives and blended genre. 20 double-spaced page limit.

South Loop Review publishes essays and memoir, lyric and experimental forms, non-linear narratives, blended genre, graphic memoir, photography, and art. We look for personal essays and memoir with fresh voices and new takes on presentation and form. We are looking for diverse voices.

We publish established and emerging authors. Our issues are never themed and we do not look for any particular subject. We are open to any form, structure, or hybrid work.

Page Limit: 20 pages double-spaced
Photograph Limit: 5 images

Please note: we do not accept revisions of work upon acceptance unless specified by the editor.

Simultaneous submissions accepted. Please notify us as soon as possible at southloopreview@colum.edu if your work has been accepted elsewhere. The response time is 1-4 months.

Manuscripts will NOT be returned.

When submitting:
Please include full contact information and a brief bio in your submission. All manuscripts should be double-spaced and include standard margins, 12 pt. font and page numbers.

We do NOT accept:

   · poetry
   · book reviews
   · fiction (long form or short story)
   · more than two (2) text works per submission year

We offer no cash payment, only 2 complimentary contributor copies.


PHOTOGRAPHY GUIDELINES

Photographers and artists are highly encouraged to submit their work. We are looking for photography and art that creates a strong resonance. We do not look for any particular subject or theme. Because of this, we recommend that you look at an issue before submitting. While you are welcome to submit color photographs, we only publish in black & white but choose the cover photograph(s) from our submissions.

We welcome the use of text with an image. We are especially drawn to photography and art with an autobiographical or literary element.

We accept:
- illustrated essays
- landscape photography
- portraits with artistic elements
- documentary photography
- street photography
- collage with text
- paintings
- additional body(ies) of text to support photographs

You may submit art/photography three possible ways:

   · Hard Copy (8x10 [or around that size] photo copy)
   · CD
   · Flash drive

Your submission should include the name and title of each image. Your hard copy, CD, or flash drive submission will NOT be returned to you.

When submitting hard copy, in the upper right corner on the front of each image, you must include: Artist Name, Title, and Medium; include full contact information (including email address) on the back of each image.
