Submission Guidelines for South Loop Review: Creative Nonfiction + Art Magazine
We are currently closed for nonfiction and art/photography submissions. Please submit again starting September 1, 2013.
We are looking for diverse voices. South Loop Review publishes essays and memoir, lyric and experimental forms, non-linear narratives, blended genre, graphic memoir, photography and art. We look for personal essays and memoir with fresh voices and new takes on presentation and form. We publish established and emerging authors. Our issues are never themed and we do not look for any particular subject.
Our reading period is September 1 - January 1. Simultaneous submissions accepted. Please notify us as soon as possible if your work has been accepted elsewhere. The response time is 1-6 months. We offer no cash payment, only 2 complimentary contributor copies. We recommend sending nonfiction submissions through Tell It Slant, our online submissions management firm.
We do NOT accept:
· works of poetry
· book reviews
· work that is more than 15 text pages
· work that has been previously published
· more than two (2) text works per submission year
· more than five (5) photographic/artistic works
Please include full contact information and a brief bio in your submission. All manuscripts should be double-spaced and include standard margins, 12 pt. font and page numbers. Please note: manuscripts will NOT be returned.
We highly encourage you to submit through our online submission service Tell It Slant at http://tellitslant.com/home/journal_details/9 You can also submit hard copy with a cover letter and SASE to:
South Loop Review: Creative Nonfiction + Art
Columbia College Chicago

Photographers and artists are highly encouraged to submit their work. We are looking for photography and art that creates a strong resonance. We do not look for any particular subject or theme. Because of this, we recommend that you look at an issue before submitting. While you are welcome to submit color photographs, please keep in mind we only publish in black & white but we choose the cover photograph(s) from our submission pile.
We ask that photographers and artists submit an 8x10 (or around that size) photo copy of your work or you may submit work on a CD or a flash drive. We will not return the CD or flash drive to you. Your submission should include the name and title of each image. When submitting hard copy, in the upper right corner on the front of each image, you must include: Artist Name, Title, and Medium; include full contact information (including email address) on the back of each image.
For photography and artwork, please send to the mailing address above or drop it off in our English Department drop box located on the 3rd floor of 33 E. Congress Pkwy at Columbia College.
