Call for Work for Graduate Students: At Close Distance: Labyrinth of Self Exhibition

closedistancecall.jpg

At Close Distance is a graduate student exhibition of interdisciplinary art work, which explores the question: how do our journeys from past to present shape our beliefs, identities and our relationship to our environment?

Our experiences, heritage, and origins inevitably influence our present selves. The labyrinth that emerges, upon reflection of our past, expresses the continuity and transformation that occurs during those personal experiences from THEN to NOW.

At Close Distance is open to graduate students in all Columbia graduate programs. We seek completed projects, works in progress or proposals for new work in ANY medium including: film / video, photography, creative writing, 2D art, mixed media, book arts, painting, sculpture, drawing, sound, movement, and performance. Collaborative work is encouraged.

(If submitting proposals for new work, please note the short time frame between acceptance and installation, and plan accordingly).

For finished works: Provide a brief project description, images in jpg format, dimensions, and list of mediums used.

For unfinished or proposed works: Include a thorough written description including sample images of previous work in jpg format.

For all work submitted: Indicate all technical and spatial needs for your work. This is crucial to the consideration of your work.

Deadline for proposals: October 2, 2009

Installation dates: November 2 - 5, 2009

Graduate student curators Laura Elayne Miller & Eliza Fogel look forward to reviewing your submissions!

Email your submission and any additional questions to: atclosedistance@gmail.com
At Close Distance: Labyrinth of Self is hosted by the Department of Exhibition and Performance Spaces.

The exhibit will run from November 11- February 12, 2010 in the C33 Gallery at 33 East Congress Avenue.
