How to Tackle a (Financial) Registration Hold

Registration is right around the corner and students who are not current on their student account balances will have a registration hold placed on their account. If you think you might have a registration hold placed on your account, don’t let it be a source of anxiety. Instead, treat this as an opportunity to get your Account Plan back on track. If you’re unsure why you have a hold or how to take care of it, we have compiled some tips to help guide you through the steps.

1) Review your account:
First get a clear picture of your student account. Use all the available online resources in your student OASIS portal to gather information. Check your Missing Documents screen, and login to your Loopmail account to look for SFS emails. Use CCCPay to print your e-bill which lists your student account balance and itemized transactions. For timelier, detailed information between monthly e-bill postings, you can also utilize the new Student Account Detail screen found in OASIS.

2) Identify the issue:
Once you’ve done your research and have an understanding of your student account, you can determine what happened. Remember, you have a particular Account Plan to follow depending on your individual Payer Identity. If you haven’t adhered to your plan, this is why you have a registration hold. Understanding your Account Plan is fundamental to maintaining it, so here’s a quick breakdown of where you should be at this point in the semester.

* Financial Aid Recipient: Financial aid covers your entire student account balance; all aid is secured; no missing documents; student account balance is paid in full.
* Third-Party Payer: Third-party resource covers your entire student account balance; all third-party billing information and/or documentation have been submitted. If your third-party resource does not cover the entire semester charges, the difference should be paid in full.
* Cash Payer: Your student account is paid in full, or if you are following the Cash Payer payment plan, two of the four payments have been submitted on-time.
