Limited Supply of H1N1 Vaccine Available to High-Risk Students |
The college has received an initial 500 dosages of the H1N1 flu vaccine for students. Per Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations, Columbia will offer these initial vaccines free to high-risk individuals on Wednesday, October 21, from 10 a.m. to noon at 33 East Congress, 1st floor. You must bring your current Columbia student ID, or your class schedule and photo ID.
The CDC has identified the following groups as high-risk:
• Pregnant women
• People who have:
• Cancer
• Blood disorders
• Chronic lung diseases, such as asthma, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
• Diabetes
• Heart disease
• Kidney disorders
• Liver disorders
• Neurological disorders (epilepsy, cerebral palsy, brain or spinal cord injuries, moderate to profound intellectual disability or developmental delay
• Neuromuscular disorders (muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis)
• Weakened immune systems (HIV or AIDS) or people who are on medications that weaken the immune system
• Inflammatory Arthritis or Rheumatic Disease
Priority will be given to high-risk students.
After 12 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, Columbia will offer any remaining vaccines free to the general student population on a first-come, first-served basis.
Please check this site after noon on Wednesday for information regarding availability of vaccines for the general student population. If vaccines are available for students who are not considered high risk, a message will be posted here.
