The absolutely most talented Columbia student is ...

The absolutely most talented Columbia student is ... who? If you can get past your own gargantuan sized talent for a minute, take a minute to tell us about a fellow student (must be a current student) whose work is just flat out, all out impressive. Interpret that as you will. Include a link if you can. Just stick it in there, we'll make it work right before we publish it.

Don't be afraid to surprise us here. Sure, we're thinking this girl is an incredible cinematographer because, and this guy is a genius composer ... but you might be thinking about this a little differently. Be unafraid. Share.

This week's winning entry will win a $25 target for themselves and another one for the student they profiled.

im not really sure how to vote because i don't agree with any of the options...with both people i recognize as good talent it is simply because of popularity...if people like it thats what your talking about...for me there is no good art...or bad art...the name of those two people are Kelan Roman Bonislawski and Andrew Herner.

It took me a long time to decide who I wanted to nominate; but now I am ready. I am casting my vote for Luca Andreescu. Even though he subjected me to exposed breasts and uncircumcised penises for our final last semester, and even though he is often found chatting and/or not paying attention during our Digital II lectures this semester, (and therefore causing me to stop paying attention) I have to admit his work is amazing. I'm not gonna hold the nudity thing against him, even though I want to. His stuff is just too good. Here's a link to his stuff:

I think Jackie Capozzoli is one of Columbia's greatest artist. She has one numerous awards and her mural in the 623 building was awesome! She is a diverse artist and her work spands from installations, to paintings, to sculptures and the like. I don't think there's anything this girl can't touch.

The most talented student at Columbia is by far Angel Katz (is in fact her real name) . She is a Photography major, but has the best voice i have every heard in my life. Her vocal control is envied by everyone. She has played shows all around the Chicago-land area and even created a cover of Lil' Wayne's "Lollipop" that will make anybody smile. The things she can do with a picture is awe-inspiring. In summation Angel Katz is not only creative she is talented and deserves to be be honored as Columbia's most talented student. She's also one of the nicest and funniest people you will meet in your life.

The most talented student at Columbia is Anna Rouse. Not only is Anna creative, but she has compassion. She is a PR major and altough she doesn't actually create an "art", she takes the most imaginative approach at what she does. Anna wants to work for a Non Profit when she graduates as an event planner. She currently is interning at the MS Society. She is contantly coming up with creative ways to make money for the organization. She is now in the process of planning a Spirit Tent for the annual MS walk. You can always count on Anna to make something as simple as charity into a creative project that she is so passionate about.

The most talented student at Columbia, is Megan Koval. She's a marketing communications major that loves to make films. Her films document her life and the people involved in her life. Her videos resemble memories, quick, distinct, and beautiful. I believe her talent lies in the fact that she can connect to any person through her videos. Megan Koval not only makes beautiful movies, but she is also a talented harp player who often likes to sing/play "Nocturne" in her dorm room. As a marketing major, her videos are rarely seen by anyone outside of her friends list on Facebook, so check it out: http://megankoval.com

The most talented person is hands down Tony Orlando. I heard him sing at underground wonder bar than again at duffy's and his voice is so clear and powerful! I had the pleasure of taking a class with him last year, He's just amazing and to top it off he's actually a really nice genuine guy! I'd like to see more people like him be given recognition

I'm ashamed to say this, but I think the most talented student is the one girl I am the most envious of. Catie Porretta has it all. The beautiful face, the gorgeous voice, a long-distance boyfriend that still loves her. She's going places it seems. I'm jealous. Jealous jealous jealous and I want the whole world to know.

The most talented Columbia student is my friend and roommate, Gisella Faggi. She is an amazing writer and has written some of the best screen plays I've seen at Columbia. She is an inspiration to me because she is always hard at work, typing away at her computer, working on a brilliant piece of work in the corner of our family room. Her dedication to her work motivates me when I'm feeling lazy or uncreative, which in turn has led to the creation of some of my better projects...and I'd like to thank her.

I don't know how many people will read this, but its the least I can do to give Gisella half the recognition she deserves.

ROW KAVI!
Hands down. His work as a director of photography blows me away. Not only that he is selfless-I ask for his expertise for the dumbest of things (even just to run a camera for me for a casting call) and he is there. He jumped to help me with my documentary....and apologized.... APOLOGIZED for putting a kink in the scheduling because...
because he has his weekend leave for the Army reserves. He's funny and kind, and all types of wonderful :) Heck...he even told me not to worry about gear for my documentary, because he was planning on buying a camera he would "donate to the cause". The guy is a genius behind the camera and a great person that makes me want him as my DP for every film I ever touch.

Adam Werlinger!
He is by far the most involved, studious, and talented person I know. He is an AEMM major and has proven himself to have incredible by just looking at his credentials. He was had internships with some of the best Opera and Theatre companies in the WORLD (i.e. Santa Fe Opera, Chicago Lyric, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Broadway in Chicago, and more). He not only has good credentials but amazing work ethic and determination, which is shown by how involved he is on campus. He has been an RA with Residence Life for two years, in the Student Representative to the Board of Trustees, is directing his own show this semester, is apart and very active of Student Government Association along with other administration and student groups to better understand/represent his position on the Board of Trustees. Every time I hear Adam talking about all that he's involved in, I am stunned to know how he does so much with so little time. He is very professional, excellent at what he does, and extremely knowledgeable in his field and how he wants to present himself. There's no doubt in my mind that he will be successful! Did I mention he's applying at grad schools all around the world?

Lauren Gill or more importantly Lo. I call her my best friend because she is an amazing person and friend and she has a mind of a goofy genius. Her wire mesh dress she created last year does not begin to explain her enthusiasm towards everything fashion. Her love for octopuses gives way to imaginative clothing that is sea like in more ways than tentacle like structures. She could whip up a pair of skinny jeans or a cute vest with her nerdy brain in tow, she is quite amazing.

JB says:

When I first came to Columbia after a yearlong Hiatus from education, I started meeting a lot of new people, a lot of very talented, surprising new people. Yet despite the great influx of blooming young artists, I met a 24 year old student who blew my mind. Jason Pere has been to art schools before, a few, and has come here to finish his education. Yet no matter if he has a paint brush in his hand or an SLR camera, he just keeps pumping out more and more impressive works. His paintings are chock full of eye popping color and visuals, and yet I've seen him finishing them in and hour or two, like he just goes into this zone where he can do exactly what he want like he wants.

When he breaks out the camera it may take days for him to finish getting the shots he wants, and in his short time as a photography student he keeps creating fascinating work. He's not the most experienced, and probably not the most networked, but undoubtedly he is one of the most talented, if not THE most.

Deann Baker says:

The absolutely most talented Columbia student is ...
The very student that has inspired me to do my best. She works in and outside of the school furthering herself in a career not easily obtainable by women. Her name, Diana Bros with a major in Film and concentration in directing.
I first met her through a small video project and her leadership over a large group of creative minds already taught me so much about directing. She breaths and lives film. Outside of the school she's worked for the WB and various shows that have come to Chicago. Inside of school she doesn't lower her work ethic to take a break among amateurs, she actually seems to raise the roof.

If her talent isn't enough her personality will win your heart. I'm not trying to sound all mushy but if you met her, you'd understand. She has an incredible balance between taking her job seriously as well as creating a relaxed fun environment. Though she's only my age she's the kind of filmmaker I look up to.

Kelsey Anderson says:

Put a camera in Eric Wehrmeister's hands and you'll always be surprised. Primarily a filmmaker and cinematography student, Eric has always loved photography. On many of his film shoots, he has been the still photographer, churning out one stunning picture after another. If you line up the images in order, you wouldn't even need the film reel! You can tell the story from his work.

I have had the pleasure of knowing him before college for a couple of years in high school, watching him flourish in the meager photography courses that the school offered. He has grown and learned more in that art, and as I see it, should really pursue that instead of film.

In addition to his many talents, Eric is also a people person. He is willing to teach anyone eager enough about photography how to get that "perfect shot". All the questions I have ever asked him about the subject have been fully answered, and I feel like my own photography style has flourished under his guidance.

To me, the absolutely most talented student at Columbia should not only be just about their skills and abilities, but their happiness to share it with the world. They should want to teach people and show them the beauty of the art form, making them appreciate not only good work, but good technique. Lastly, this person should be passionate about their work and constantly raising the bar higher.

A person that embodies all this (and more) would be my friend and classmate, Eric Wehrmeister.

I know this guy who does THE MOST amazing paintings/collages. He's constantly working on something and most of the time it's not even for school. Even when he messes something up during a process he makes it a apart of the final project, and make it look even better than before.

The one thing is, HE KNOWS how good he is so it's hard to compliment him, and I rarely do. I really can't stand him for more then 10 mins just because he is so intense at times. But apart from how I feel about him personally I would totally pay for one of his collages if I wasn't already broke.

I admire him and hate him. Make sense? No, not really but who cares?

Claire Stahlecker! Not only is she an amazing songwriter, guitar player, and singer but she is also one of those great musicians who want nothing more than to tell people about music and help them with their own.

rachal Duggan says:

This seems very strange because I have not met her, but I've seen her work online and it is amazing. Ashley Bedore, to my knowledge, is an illustration student and based on the work on her site, she seems to have a very concrete style and thorough ideas. I've seen a lot of student work and her's tends to stick in my head.

The absolutely most talented Columbia student is... Mary Fix.

Not only does she work super hard and take outstanding pictures, she's a pretty cool chick too. Can't beat it: genius meets reality.

I've gotta give Mr. Alexander Todaro props. He is quite the artiste, that is fo sho.

His work from our intro to Graphic Design course was beyond intro, and if the guy isn't designing a sweet poster for his buddie's equally sweet band The Wearings, he's painting and drawing and taking photos like a pro.
