The Columbia College Student Experience: What makes you proud to be a member of your faith-based / religious identity group?
What makes you proud to be a member of your faith-based / religious identity group? (If you are not sure … share why you are not sure … that’s ok too.)

Martin | April 21, 2009 2:07 PMI am a strong follower of the Christian faith, and I was always raised to know that whither I believed that something was either right or wrong everyone had deserved my respect. After having a discussion about Manifest with the Christian organization I'm involved with here on campus, we realized that the Christian community is known for some pretty horrible things. Extreme Baptist protesting funerals of soldiers, or just the Christian community (not everyone) deciding that they get to choose for all Americans who should or should not get married. Or how Christians say they love everyone, but they tell gay jokes or make up words so people know their not gay ("no homo").
I love following the teachings of Christ and teaching others about my faith, but it makes it kind of hard to say that Christians are welcoming people and they love you no matter what when I see things like this or even worse every day in America.
This is why I'm not sure on whither to wave the Christian flag high or not.
